Shadow Game is brilliantly crafted tribute to the classic spy novel, contained within a modern action-packed, all-gas no brakes thriller that keeps the tension cranked to eleven. Nick Petrie’s latest installment in the must-read Peter Ash series will have you entranced, breathless and on the edge of your seat from start to finish.
Peter Ash is hiking the Appalachian Trail when he encounters an old man who tells him to get lost. Finding this suspicious, Peter keeps an eye on him and then intervenes when he’s accosted by two armed men. Despite multiple warnings to mind his own business for his own safety, Peter isn’t going to turn his back on anyone who needs help despite imminent danger. Which results in Peter finding himself in the middle of a deadly plot that dates to the Cold War. Being chased by dangerous assassins and getting on the wrong side of the law, Peter will need to use every skill he possesses – along with help from one very capable friend – to protect the old man and help him not only to survive, but to get back the life he lost close to 40 years ago.
Shadow Game is a phenomenal thriller that will be fervently enjoyed by both long-time fans of the series and readers just discovering Peter Ash for the first time. It has everything you would expect from a book in this renowned series – great writing, fast pacing, well-constructed characters, twists and turns, and action that elicits emotional responses. And that would be enough, but Petrie elevates this novel to another level with an espionage tale that is an exceptional homage to the US versus Russia Cold War spy thriller that those of us of a certain age grew up reading. Doing so without losing the essence of a Peter Ash story. Seamlessly infusing one with the other to create a gripping, propulsive and electric adventure that readers will devour in short order.
It’s another smash hit from the pen of Nick Petrie. Once you start, good luck putting it down.
