Short Mission By D.J. Scott

Author D.J. Scott has penned his second novel in the McGregor and Moore series, and it stands on its own as a powerhouse of a read. Short Mission starts directly on the heels of the first novel in this series, Short Season, where they are left bloodied by their last mission to recover a stolen nuclear warhead. Mike McGregor is a Navy medical officer and Kelli Moore is a Marine Captain, both serving in the reserves for their prospective branches. Not is all as it appears with these two unlikely counter terrorism operatives, which makes them perfect for the president to augment with the CIA to crack difficult cases.

The president tasks McGregor and Moore on a mission to uncover the perpetrator of several nerve gas attacks on American soil. This deniable mission will be overseen by CIA Officer, Jennifer Kim, who has just come off of a tough operation where her agent was killed. Everyone is coming into this monumental task with baggage from their last missions, but they are willing to do what needs to be done to protect America. McGregor and Moore are sent undercover to Britain to find a source who has information about this nerve gas attack. However, as their cover breaks, and more audacious attacks occur on them, these two unlikely operatives must tap into every source they can to solve this case before the next attack occurs.

This was the first time I have read a McGregor and Moore novel, and I really enjoyed it. D.J. Scott has tapped into his background as a retired medical officer and an Iraqi war veteran to create a really intriguing story. It was one action-packed event after another that made it a heart-pounding read to the end.
