Double Tap feels like a true continuation of where Vince Flynn’s character arc for Mitch Rapp was leading when he wrote American Assassin and Kill Shot. It’s action-packed, faithful to the world Vince Flynn created, and most importantly, it’s a full Rapp-Fest.
After learning some tough lessons in his budding career as a secret assassin, Mitch Rapp is well on his way to becoming the venerated operative we were introduced to in Transfer of Power. This time we see him in Italy, on the hunt for a Pakistani scientist who may be consorting with terrorists. When the mission goes belly-up, he stays on the objective, knowing that there’s more at stake than what appears on the surface. As he puts on a sleuthing cap to investigate, he finds more than he bargained for, with a terror plot that would cause a lot of devastation unless Rapp can stop it.
Don Bentley continues to improve with each book, while including cool origin stories for characters that piqued so much interest earlier in the series. Bentley returns us to familiar settings and characters and provides them room to shine. Double Tap feels like the perfect evolution for Rapp as he sees his first foray from a killer to an intelligence asset.
Double Tap is a love letter to fans who have been asking to get more of Mitch Rapp and the original gang, including Stan Hurley, taking on bad guys and keeping the world safe.
