Lodestone By Stephen England

In this Shadow Warriors short story, England writes a hard hitting and action-packed adventure where time is of essence. England’s Shadow Warriors are some of the best operators and are tasked with some of the most dangerous missions. The kind where life and death toe a fine line.

England’s Lodestone is a balls to the wall mission where a coveted asset (Layla Massoud) in Lebanon has her cover blown. A team of specialized operators are sent in to safely extract the asset while CIA agents Iraida Harmon and Rebecca Petras coordinate efforts from the USS Iwo Jima. After the team of Harry Nichols, Nick Crawford and Sergeant Hale insert to find the contact, they are misled by some clever terrorist tactics. Not only do that have to find Layla fast, but they are also in the crosshairs of the Israeli army as they continue to advance on Hezbollah terrorists. The race to save Layla takes a severe sidestep as there is more to fight for and the operators can’t leave other precious cargo behind.

England produces top notch battle scenes, immense intrigue, and keeps the gas pumping in this short story. The characters are not overly complicated while the government bureaucracy attempts to stall and prevent mission success. If you haven’t taken the time to read any Stephen England, give one of his short stories a chance and get a glimpse of his creative ability.
