Bitter Fall By Bruce Robert Coffin

Bruce Robert Coffin is back with Detective Brock Justice in episode two, Bitter Fall. Justice is no stranger to solving the most difficult of cases, but in this saga, Justice is called in when the worst of the worst happens to a beautiful young woman.

Summer Randall was destined for something special, but her life was cut short, and as the daughter of a congresswoman her untimely death will force the Maine State Police to dig a depth of no bounds to uncover the truth. Partnered with his trusty sidekick Chloe Wright, Justice navigates a slew of possible suspects while dealing with a devil from his own past.

Running down leads from Randalls past and present, Justice uses his keen ability to see things outside the box to hunt those responsible while also questioning why his former partner is back on the job in Northern Maine. Justice battled with Deputy Evan Mathers and his irresponsible shooting of an unarmed suspect in years prior. Chole, Brock, and other law enforcement officials must turn over every leaf to find out who is responsible for the death of Summer Randall and save face for the Maine State Police. No matter the cost, Detective Justice and team are willing to put in the effort.

Bitter Fall has everything you need from violence, despair, and a little bit of poetic justice sprinkled in. It’s a sensational follow up to my Best Thriller Books Biggest Surprise of 2025 in Crimson Thaw. Coffin delivers intrigue, emotion, and truth all while leaving the story authentic and dirty. I had an ominous feeling at multiple times, gravitating towards the feelings of the detectives, highlighting Coffins ability to really draw me in and keep me hooked. Brock Justice is a highly enjoyable character that is determined, albeit a little unorthodox, but that’s just part of the reason I feel this character shines.
